Hi all, I need some info regarding EFI wiring etc for VS V8 commodores. My quadrajet carbied 308 (with VN-VS heads) is getting a VS V8 EFI setup. Only thing is I need some info clarified, so here goes:

1. Am I correct in saying that the pinout for the 2 connectors for the computer (ECM for manual, PCM for auto) are wired completely different re manual vs auto. Looking at the limited wiring diagrams I have, it seems they are totally different. Correct?

2. Going by above, you cant simply then swap auto to manual computers around without re-wiring the engine loom, correct?

3. I understand I have to get the computer re-programmed and the gearbox/security removed from it. Well I have a computer that allready has had that removed, but has also been programmed to open-loop mode, so it ignores the O2 sensor, is this able to be re-programmed back in?

4. Assume a stock standard VS V8 commodore. How would the stock computer handle a cam change?? Would it need to be re-programmed or does it learn?? I ask becuase the 308 allready has quite a hot cam and I dont want to take it out.

5. How have people gotten around the VSS (vehicle speed sensor)????Again, from the limited notes I have it seems the computer will need to know about the cars speed.

Thanks for any advice all!

Cheers Dre

I'm using a VS computer cause I have a VS injection manifold and everything else I have is from a VS :)

I'm not *upgrading* a VN setup for a VS setup, I'm getting rid of my Quadrajet and sticking a full EFI setup on there.

Yeah, VS use a diffe

Hey Dre,

i re-read ur post and realised you already ahd all the VS gear.

the VN speedo has a built in divide by 5 circuit before feeding back to the computer, to obtain the correct no of pulses, either way u still need a pulse sender unit, jus

Hi Dre.

A couple of things here to clear up.
Firstly, you mentioned you had a hot cam that you wanted to keep. If this cam was to suit the old 308 heads, it won't work with EFI heads because the valve order has changed & you will have the wrong

Hi Dre.
To add to above.
With VR & VS V8 the manual trans ECU is a smaller unit than the auto PCM & looks like the VN/VP 808 unit, it's number ends in 082. This is the one you need if you are not running an auto in a VR/VS V8.
You could, as oth

Castle auto electrics sell the speed sensor pulse convertor kit. About $200 I think. I'm a big fan of an 808 ECU with an SV89 memcal. This is the 180kW setup, and works well with a lumpier cam. You need to improve the exhaust as well, fit a V6 knock senso

Hi Byron.
Can you tell me more about the patch harness...
Is there a GM part number for it, and is patch harness the correct name for it?
I have the knock sensor for my VN V8 (HSV modified ECM), but no wiring :-(
I notice on VT V8's that the lead comi

Hi guys,

What are the advantages in running the knock sensor, and and I right in saying that my std memcal needs to be modified to accept one?

Thanks, Steve.

Hi, thanks for the info. But I allready have VN-VS heads on my 308 with cam and extractors all fitted, so no worries. All I'm planning to change is my manifold over to a VS EFI one.

I dont really care whether its sequential or not.

What I do

Hi, my VS auto computer is allready programmed to ignore the security and trans so I dont really want to just "throw it out" as you say. I dont have any VN gear so I just want to use what I have.

I'll persist anyways...

Yes it's an off the shelf GM part number. About $29. See your local Holden dealer, and look under the 180kW engine section. It taps into the harness at the ECU if I remember correctly.
As to Steve's query, the advantage of the knock sensor is you can dev

Hi again Dre.

The answer to this question is quite simply, NO.

Unless your car has a 4L60-E auto trans you must use the 082 ECU or better still the 808.

If you already own a harness, you could fit the plugs to suit the 082 or 808, by rem

Hmmmm, asked at our statewide Holden dealership (Motors in Launceston), but the guy had never heard of it, and couldn't find it on the computer.
Not all that surprising I suppose as a small state like Tassie gets very limited quieries for out of the ordi

Thanks Byron,

I'm running a cold air intake, & improved exhaust. I've actualy got a COME cam & chip package, so might have to give them a call to see what I can do.

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks, I found out on Oldholden yesterday the same info. I've allready started to convert my manual loom to accept the auto VS computer.

BTW, the gearbox in my ute is a Supra 5 speed so no worries there.

Cheers Dre

Try this:

06Y111902. Lists as $25.60. You may also be able to adapt a V6 one?
