Hi All
I,ve got a 5 L vt v8 with a diff problem, so instead of just fixing it i'd like to also modify it. Initially i was told to go for a 9" ford diff, but as i don't ave $5,000 to spare at the moment i've decided to rebuild z same diff but change the ratios. At the moment it has the original 3.08 diff, i was told to change this to 3.45 (same as the hsv). Can anyone help me with this problem ? What do u guys recommend.
Thanks

Holyfield, If u want more torque and less economy yes, go for 3.45 or 3.7. 2nd hand ratios cost about $220 and new $440 - Con at Diff Technics, Miranda NSW. RussHX, If u can't find a Tag on yer diff, as a rough guide: jack 1 wheel up and note the posi |

Thanks 666, i'll call em as well as others before i start work on it. By the way has anyone seen a web site where i can find the different acceleration & fuel usage for different ratios. Or maybe if someone has put in a 3.7 diff can tell me what their fue

Holyfield, Here's another trick for judging what diff'l work for ur engine - say ur doin 100ks/h and it's revin in top gear(not over drive) at say 2000rpm. Now for every 0.1 u increase ur diff ratio by will add 100rpm to ur engine revs to maintain 100ks |

Thanks again 666, thats quite useful & supports what i've been told so far. I guess the question that remains is how much more acceleration i would get with the 3.7 compared with the 3.45 ? Is it a major difference or i couldnt tell the difference unless

Acceleration is not all about ur diff but more so ur mota. Starting at the front - Dyno ur motor to find out its power curve ,then decide the purpose u want to use this motor for(Daily Driver/Street n Strip/QtrMiler Then adapt ur diff to suit ur trany (Au |

I run a 3.7, its why I put a 5 speed in the ute. If you ever travel on the highway over a couple of hours or like to travel. Go with a 3.45 if you have a 4speed.
Run Sydeny to Bris etc you could swear you have been to a metal concert.

Thanks Gav
I've already got a 5 speed in it. What did u ave in yours b4 the 3.7. Did u get much increase in acceleration, and lose much speed/power at the top end. How about fuel consumption major difference ?
At the moment im also considering conve
