Byron or anyone technically minded with electronics , I have a electronic dizzy with the coil in the cap , it was fine until the module died ( 8 years old ) a new module was put in 12 months ago and the other day while driving it stopped again , The RAA guy said it had no spark , so I took it to the workshop that fitted it ( reliable shop I have known for 10 years )and the unit tested fine on their machine and gave spark , I fitted it back in the van and no spark ? While the unit was out I retro fitted a points system which ran okay. Any ideas what else might be wrong with the dizzy ??

While I don't know the answer to your specific question Cloudy, you can easily do a few basic checks yourself.
Check for broken (or breaking) wires, dry solder joints (wiggle wires around and check for continuity appearing/disappearing), check any eart

Qute is on the right track over 80% of these type of module failures is due to overheating and if it has no spark at all it probably is the module, even if it tests ok on the bench

they heated the module up to barely touchable and it still sparked (on bench)and repacked in the heat protecting grease. Any idea what a HEI is worth from a blue or black V8 might be an option !

I have seen blue/black dizzies go for anywhere between $50 and $250.
Make sure it isn't the wiring first, mate. I'd hate to see you spend a couple of hundred (or whatever) only to have the same problem because it is a crook joint or broken wire in your

I have connected the same wires to a points dizzy and it starts the car which is why I don`t think its the wires.

Try Engine Shed in Pakenham Melb. They sell, service & build up "coil in cap" distributors for 253/308's. They may be able to diagnose your problem or possible cause over the phone. |
