Hi,
What is the purpose of tramp rods? Why are they illegal? Do you need them? Is there an alternative?

Tramp rods are to reduce the amount that the rear suspension and axle twists when you give the car a bootfull. They are meant to give you more traction and are only used on cars with leaf springs on the rear.

AFAIK, they are illegal for road use becaus

The only legal alternative is the factory tramp rods like the GTs had. Rather than hanging them off the bottom of the diff the factory rods attach via the upper U bolts on the nine inch and then a rod extends forward and up where it bolts into the subfra

As Dave states, they're illegal because the regulations state that the lowest part of a car (APART from the rims and brake backing plates) have to be X mount (it used to be 4 inches or 100mm. 10cms for those in the ragtrade) These bolt-on

the factory tramp bar that Paul mentioned is a better option to the after market tramp rods
it will dramaticly reduce any axle tramp [ shudder ] that you might be getting on take off and so has to reduce the stess and strain on the running gear as well a
old B`s go hard .
new B`s have air.

Can you still get those things? I had them YONKS ago and ended up getting a defect notice by the boys in blue. I could'nt understand back then how auto shops can sell them with regulations saying there illegal? I was pissed off like Schapelle Corby would

i take it you are thinking of the after market tramp rods that were all the go in the 80`s .
they bolted on below the diff and stuck out the front below the spring like a dogs ..... and were about as usefull.
like a lot of things you can b
old B`s go hard .
new B`s have air.

some of the Fairlanes and I think all the LTDs had the tramp rods too but it was longer than the sedan/coupe ones. Both types pop up on ebay from time to time. They were also standard on the Landaus. The XAs had them too. I think they are sligh

Maybe just maybe the anti tramp rods of an XE onwards sedan can be fitted to the leaf spring Falcons. They are cheap and easy to get hold of.

I have never tried this but picked up an XE diff with all arms for free at a swap meet because the "s

ZL Fairlane upper rear trailing arms shoulb be able to be adapted without too much trouble - they seem to slip almost perfectly between the Chassis rail and the inner guard sheet metal at the front - probably be pretty easy to drill through both and then

I have tramp rods fitted to my XD and they make the car alot better to drive. How much is the fine as a matter of interest?

TRamp rods also stop the diff from bouncing this happened in my EH and the bouncing causes axels to break over time. Or earlier if not lucky.

I have been looking for factory tramp rods on ebay for the last couple of years and they seem to go for about $150-$250.The reason I've never actually bought any is I was'nt sure how effective they would be.My xa hardtop did have the standard springs(3 or

I was given a set of xagt tramp rods, they came with the l brackets. Now will these fit my landau? (with out the brackets)High steve did that box end up coming back?
