I've almost convinced myself to drop the rails out the HQ, to do a better job of the rust repairs, repaint etc. I've taken the front clip off a few Q's & J's but never the rails. Anyone got any tips or advice to make the job easier? Was thinking of leaving the motor in the rails, then lifting the motor of the rails. Any thoughts?

just finished doing it to my hj caprice i had motor off to do it, i was then able to just use myself and 2 mates to lift it off and put it back on again after the repairs were done i had 4 car stands 2 at rear of car and then i placed a peice of wood acro

I've done this countless times....both with the engine in, and also out.
Basically set the stands up as GlenPerth has suggested, with the front wheels off the ground by about 2" at least.
Put a jack under the front engine crossmember.

Taz, how have you gone with re-aligning the chassis back to the body?? any tip's on this will be very helpful as i have to replace the rails on my brothers HJ wagon soon..

I replaced a bent front end/rails complete on a Q wagon on my own it was basically unbolt the chassis bolts disconnect the brake lines and remove the gearbox support jack the motor up I supported it with a timber across the guards wheel the old one out th

Just use a piece of string & make sure your diagonals are equal. |

The subframe is a very snug fit, and sits against the rocker panels/sills neatly.
I'd suggest that the frame will go in aligned correctly by itself provided your body/subframe is straight originally. (see JohnPerth above).

Hey Man,
Whats these rails you going on about do you mean the chassis if so its real easy dude, just undo all the bolts holding the body to the chassis disconnect the fuel hose and the fuel filler pipe, disconnect the electrics, disconnect the steering,
