Throw it away and fit a V8, seriously. A 186 is a good thing for spirited street use, but for drag racing and burnout, a small stock block Chev will be cheaper and more reliable.

Other mods could include: Nice cam, 12 port head or yella terra head, Good valves, i would put a big carbie on it like a 450 or 500 but a 350 should do the trick, 2 1/2 exaust. but a cheaper way would be to buy a 350 chev that has already been done up.

There is no great benefit in fitting a 12 port head unless you are fitting triple dual chokes (or six single chokes) or a VK EFI setup or similar.

cant agree more with Byron Rich a good solid 8 is the only way to go. however if you prefer to stick with the 6 i prefer yella terra heads and a nice sensible cam carby set up (350's a nice size worked well for me for many years) spend the money on a goo

As Byron has said start with the 8 but if you want to keep the six I have had good results from the Yella Terra ported heads and then going down the Turbo path but these will not be cheap. Cheers Jim.

Unless you want to go down the turbo path with a serious
bottom end, a 202 will be a waste of money. When they are
naturally aspirated you can spend huge bucks on them for
very little hp return (i know i worked up a 202)
A much better option if yo

Howdy folks,

Just to save you some phone time, I found out a couple of months back that Yella Terra have stopped making their super-sweet alloy heads for older cars. They ceased production about 12-18 months ago, and have no remaining stock.

So you

Everyone of the comments above are all true but what I kept wondering was 1. what type of car is the 186 in ( power to weight) 2. Is it to be a street driven car or just a toy ? and 3. at the drags what group do you intend to race in ? Plus another thing

It'll raise your compression to about 11.1:1...you will HAVE to run really fresh 98 Octane fuel and listen VERY carefully for pinging.

Cheers...Dave
