Hubby and I picked up a head for my uc. We were told it was a yella terra 186 stage 3. Can anyone help me identify the number that is on the head please...... 7429477 it also has E1 96 and then a #2 and a letter H.

Hi uctorana.
The head you have is an HR 161 head casting. It may well be a Yella Terra head, but it is for 149/161/173 use. If you bolt it onto a 186 or 202 your compression will be well over 10:1, too high for pump fuel, even 98 octane.
Try & find |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Hi Dr Terry
Thank you for your knowledge. But what I dont understand is that if you knew then why didnt the company that only deals with old holden not know that it is a 161 casting they told me it was a 186. I am glad that i checked up on the number

I would also suggest not to use it, it would work, but you would have to be very careful how you drive (especially standard motor). Most of the time now, the blokes in the speedway industry use the 161 heads on their holden speedway cars! High compressi Edited by user Tuesday, 15 November 2005 6:13:15 PM(UTC)

There is a 202 you can use it on - an xM prefix ie a low compression engine. However I don't think this engine was available in a UC. Most likely it's an xL ie high comp engine. |

Any 179, 186 or 202 head. Plus any low compression 149, 161 or 173 head. Just look for a red head with an L casting just above the manifold side next to no.5 or 6 cylinder. The head you have should have a H on it there (note that this is general and there |

So if I put the 179 head on would I have to use 179 push rods and rockers? Or can I use 202 ones

You need the early rockers and pushrods, unless you buy one of the conversion kits that allows you to use 138/173/202 rockers on an early head. I've got a head here that would suit you that has minor machine work done and has been modded to use adjustable |
