What type of diffs do 6cyl UC Sunbirds Torana's have??
Are they stronger than the banjos in LH toranas?
If so, Will the fit an LH?? I was told the floorpan and trailing arms are different.

Baby Salisbury diffs. Same as 4,6 and 253 Commodores and 6cyl WB's. All UC's are the same, just that Sunbirds have 3.9:1 gearing and normally have coarse spline axles. The crownwheel and pinion are the same as a banjo, as are the axles. They are essential

Kinda what i figured. Was just looking for a cheap, easy way out to get rid of the banjo in the 253 LH I bought for the missus. She's keen to take it to the drags, but I reember what banjos were like when I was a kid and had an EH. Never ha

Check a 1970's Volvo diff for width. Same stud pattern, and disc brakes too.

Thanks for the suggestion Byron, but afraid i couldn't do that on principle.
While I relent and run 9" ford diffs, thats the only non GM stuff I have, everything else is Holden and Chev.
My missus has a ford, which I tell her it shows how much I care

byron,ive never seen a 3.9 in a uc in anything but fine spline...pulled 3 out of housings in uc sunbirds on thursday and sold them..all fine splines.been selling the 3.9 ratios out of uc sunbirds for years.always been fine splines..maybe im just lucky?

Byron , I was re-reading your first message. Are the upper mounts on a large salsbury the same as a UC. If so, it would be nearly worth just putting a UC rear floorplan in the LH perhaps. Then I could use the UC diff, and if it isn't strong enough, it wou

They are just banjo internals in a small salisbury housing. Maybe it's because the Commodore ones are all fine spline, like V8 Toranas? If that's the case just run a fine spline banjo with UC axles (or V8 LH/LX axles).
