The electronic ignition on my 186 red motor (Toyota Caoster conversion) has died, there is no spark at all . I have replaced: modulator, coil, dizzy cap, rotor button, ignition leads, all to no avail. What else can be wrong? Have I replaced the wiring correctly, positive to positive side of coil?

Hi manxboy2.
Is this a Bosch HEI dissy of a Blue motor 173/202. If it is, the most common fail is the reluctor pick-up. They fail far more often than the module, but the poor old module gets the blame every time.

Hi Dr. Terry. many thanks for your prompt reply. However in my ignorance I do not know even know what a reluctor pick up is. Could you please enlighten me? Cheers, Phil

Hi Phil.
There are only 2 electronic components in a Bosch HEI dissy, the little black 4-pin module(you've already replaced) & on the inside is the pick-up coil with the 6 'pointy bits' on its inner diameter. Inside that is the 6 pointed rotor attached |
