Hi guys,
I have heard that early toyota power steering units can be adapted to suit HK - HG's. I have even seen a pic of one operating.
So I went out and bought a powersteer box from a toyota. But from what I can see, there is no way in hell that it will even go close to fitting.
Has anyone done this conversion or know ANYTHING about it?? maybe you know someone that has... ANY help would be awesome..
Cheers

We fitted one to the EH Limo. The chassis rail had to be modified by me, the steering arm had to be resplined to Toyota by a toolmaker friend, the column remade to be collapsible by a fitter/ turner friend, and the whole lot approved by the engineer. Cert |

It is power steer box off a Toyota MX 62 Cressida. There may be similar models.
I would plan on a cost of about $3000 to get it done and engineered right to work right. The box itself was $50 from a wrecker. |

Thanks Peter. I am certainly not going to spend that kind of money. All I have to go on is this picture. (I will try and attach it to this post) I did hear that the Toyota pitman arm bolts directly to the Holden steering gear and that 2 bolts for the

I have heard the same thing about an early Toyota that has the same steering box as a HK-G but it is power instead of manual and it is virtually a straight fit.

I don't want anyone to take this as a personal thing, but 'heard' does not cut it. How many of these conversions have you done? How many have you seen? It is not 'virtually a straight fit' |

That is exactly why I am here asking questions. I have only heard about this conversion and have 1 photo of it. I 'heard' it was reasonably straight forward so I am just here to find out if that is actually correct. Obviously it isnt.. but it sure kil

G'day,
SOOOOO, is there anyone out there on this topic who has done it with the earlier model toyota where it was a bolt-on, easier and cheaper affair? Its a pity that the conversion that Peter Smol has done is such an expensive exercise. Power steeri |

Would DrTerry or Warren know what number of hktg's were sold with factory powersteer? And how much would you expect to pay to get powersteer setup recoed and fitted?
Thanks HkDave

We had to have power steer fitted to the EH Limo as part of the engineering. We had two choices.
Original EH power steer which was not necessarily the best of units, and not easy to come by or recondition.
Or adapt some other type of power steering |

I am sure it was Warren Turnbull who mentioned about the Toyota powersteering box on this site about two years back. Just because you have done it does not mean you have done it the best way the easiest way or the cheapest way. More heads make up a good i

Factory steer on HK-HG was a ram setup like an EH. The ram is in parallel to the normal steering. There are two basic different setups - one for the Chev engines and one for the Holden 6 and V8 engines, the difference is in the bracket that attaches the r |

I first saw it on an HR, where he used a Toyota box and then a HK. I asked about the HK and the owner stated "he only drilled an extra hole in the side of the box and it fitted" I then saw a guy at Wangeratta and again at Bathurst with it fitted to a GTS

Hmmm well this could possibly all make sense. After all, the EH steering box would be a totally different beast with different mounting holes to the HK T G one. Back to the drawing board on this one. Need to find that fella with it in his 327.
