Ok I am going to have a crack at doing a mild rebuild on my red 308 in my ute. Just wondering if anyone has done a rebuild and can offer any advice. It is a red 308 edelbrock performer manifold heatseeker cam, 650 holley, double valve springs everything else is standard just want to fix her up so she is a good streeter nothing over the top I am going to keep the cam and stuff like that as it is quite new and a good cam. What has inspired this is the engine has never ran excellent and tends to overheat quite alot the engine sat for well over a year, without being started and this is when the probs started with the overheating. A friend of mine has told me that the water jackets could have alot of crap built up inside them Any advice from anyone would be good thanks

New pistons, rings, bearings, balance. Hot tank block and new cam bearings and paint. Head service. Leave standard size valves. Extractors. HEI dizzy. New cast iron oil pump. Throw the Holley away and get a Quadrajet set up properly. Dont mix up the lifte

replace timing chain also
have a good look at cam, GM V8 ones are normally only good for 100,000 km.
Flick holley, get a AC delco reco Rochchester quadrajet from Eagle auto spares.
probably go with a STD oil pump, not HV oil pump for mild rebuild.

If it doesn’t burn fossil fuels, it’s not a sport.
