hi guys can't start the car - fuel is pumping up to the carby okay, but no spark from the coil lead (dizzy end) when cranking and holding it 3/16 from the block and no spark from the plug lead either. I've replaced the condensor, dizzy cap, points and set the gap correctly. The coil is also getting very hot. The low tension lead is going from the +ve on the coil to the dizzy. I've tried another coil, still no luck. Its cranking fine but doesn't even seem to want to start ... any ideas? too dark to see what I'm doing now, but will check the points again tomorrow. cheers frank

Maybe it's just lacking juice? The starter, as you well know, robs a shedload of current. If there's just one dodgy spot in the wiring, increased resistance somewhere, maybe there's just not enough current left, even after going through the coil, to provi |

+ve on the coil should be your ignition (battery) feed. -ve then goes to dizzy, which breaks the current to earth to make spark. -ve also goes to tach feed.
Coils can also cook themselves. I had an Accel coil which dear friend mr dodgy panelbeater bl |

Troubleshooting steps:- 1/ Disconnect all wires from coil Run fresh feed from battery to +ve on coil Clip test lead to -ve on coil, and rest other end on known good earth Quickly lift earth end - should be a spark. If not, repeat a few times |

No probs.
I have battled with old school ignition systems for years. It is probably one of the few systems I can figure out with a degree of certainty.
