Hi all,
I have a vt v6 which the ac is currently not working ( i beleive it's out of gas as the compressor will not kick in anymore when i press the button) Is there a way of hunting for leaks or do i take it to an ac regasser & they do the old fill it up with the dye way of checking for leaks. I would rather find out before spending $70 to have it tell me it is leaking.

Thanks
Matty

Hi HGPREM

Ive been fitting & repairing car air cond for over 30 years & we didnt have dye for the first 15 of those. With a keen experienced eye you can find leaks without dye. I didnt suggest overhauling the compressor, without looking for any leaks f

make sure the compressor is turning on, get someone to turn the ignition on and hit the aircon switch while you observe the compressor, see that the pulley engages and turns the rest of the drive mechanism, do it with engine running, but be careful!
