Hi all,
I seem to have a problem with lifters puimping up too much in my old paddock basher HR wagon. The car runs OK and then loses all compression (and stops) as the lifters cause the valves not to seat. If I back them off to where they rattle the car will run again. Can I pull these apart and clean them? If not would anyone have a set they would like to get rid of pretty cheap (don't need to be new just useable). Happy to pay postage. Many thanks Peter

you could try a wynns lifter product..or use a diesel high detergent oil (but it might leak and be a little smokey if you leave it in too long)

OK not a bad idea, Ive also been told that running diesel as oil for a brief while cleans everything out, but would be a bit weary of doing that!!
Cheers

it cleans all of the carbon out of them..and on an old engine thats not necessarily a good thing...I ruined my first engine doing that.

you can pull the lifters out and soak them in a solvent such as paint thinners. This might work.
The VL that I had a couple of years ago looked as if it had never had an oil change in fact the inside of the rocker cover had a 10mm thick layer of b |
