hi all, i resently converted my 3 speed colum shift to a 5 speed floor shift, the only problem is i cant work out how to get the old gear stick out of the steering colum, can any one help, its a 1975 HJ kingswood,

Best way is to buy a floor shift column and replace it.

you have to punch the pin out in the lever to steering column with a punch and hammer ..

the pins are really hard to knock out you generally break something, and end up with an ugly housing, better to remove the whole housing anf replace with a smooth one.

Thought for you... it can be left there as a kill switch thats not obvious. Use the reverse light switching on the column shift as a secret kill mechanism. Put it in reverse position when youre stopped. Move out to go again.

do you need to take the stick out to to change the housing or does it come out as one peice?

remove steering wheel, do NOT hammer the nut to remove it or jar it, you will destroy the column, use a puller can be made up with a bit of scrap steel and 3 bolts, or buy one, the remove the housings and disconnect the gear change rods then remove the ch

ok thanks for that, ill have a look at rare spares for a blank spacer thats prob the easiest way. ill let u know how it goes
