they are still cast heads(304, not Gen III and IV) not much lighter. They do run o.k with a carby, but you have to get the right manifold. lots of choices though. lowest i've seen is $350 for an edelbrock performer. highest is a harrop single plane - $880

As Boom says theyll work fine. The VN on V8 engines are basically identical to the earlier ones, but the heads are different hence the different manifold (and cam and exhaust). All the early stuff still fits them otherwise eg water pump, timing case, dizz |

thanks again boom byron, as i did a conversion, and the 308 i put in, is slightly heavier i think than the diesal that came out?? the van seems a little bit more spongy, for want of a better term,, as i am a little worried about the motor that went in |

no changes to the manifold. but if you go straight gas, then bolt the GRA throttlebody to the bananas.
there are alloy heads, but not factory.

hey thanks BOOM.!!! I presume the GRA throttle body, is the bit that is bolted onto the top of the qaud carby?? so are you meaning to wipe the qaud carby? and then bolt the whole gas gizmo straight onto the top of the banana looking manifold? and if |

oh, ok you're using a gas hat, sorry i presumed you meant a gas research throttlebody. if you are using a gas hat on top of a quadrajet, then you need a carburettor manifold to suit the heads that are on the engine (Pre Pollution/Pollution/VN-VT).

What price do you think gas is going to be in 2 years time....?? Maybe 75 cents.... 85 cents
Put a V6 commodore motor in it .......

Best bet is the VN 5.0 fitted with a 253/308 dissy. Replace the throttle body with a GRA mixer (as Boom said) OR adapt your gas hat to work with the 304's throttle body. Option 2 should not be that hard. You will end up with a more powerful engine t Edited by user Tuesday, 1 April 2008 1:24:34 AM(UTC)

Thats the point....if youre going fuel injected V8, youll need different petrol tank then the manifold...cat converter.....in Victoria you might have to get a VASS reort for that....not sure, they cost $700 (appox)....so ring vic roads first. Its just
