I am setting up a VC Commodore for gravel rallying - in fact a long distance event in September. My car has a VN series 4.1 rear end. I want to install a VB-VL width rear end with disc brakes, LSD and either 3.55 or 3.78 ratio centre. I need a set up with a strong housing and strong axles. I have been told the VL Turbo rear end with fine spline axles is the best, but is really hard to find. If any one has one I am keen to buy, even if it requires a rebuild. Are there other good ones, such as a VK V8, which meet my criteria?

VB-VK V8 are a Holden Salisbury, like a HQ-WB and ratios can only be had in 2.6, 2.78, 3.08, 3.36, 3.55 or 4.44 (with a very rare A9X only 3.9). VL V8 and turbo are what you want. VL V8 diffs shouldnt be too hard to find. A whole car is only worth $1,000. |

The big Salisburys only came behind a 304/308 in VB-VK unless it was one of the VB rally cars. In any case I doubt youll find a 3.36 or 3.55 in too many Commodores. Youll probably find it easier to buy a 3.08 or 2.60 example and use the guts out of a HQ-W |

All 3 litre VL's had a 3.45:1 Borg Warner rear end so the ratio is close to what you want. The NA versions used a 25 spline variant and the turbo's used the stronger 28 spline version.
You could fit a VL V8 diff with NA 3.45 gears then you will have |
