hi, just bought a second hand GM electronic distributor for my 308, and wandered how to test if it's ok. it spins freely without excess end float or sideplay

also like to know what coil and leads to use, and the supply voltage and how to wire it up

it is part no.11120651A 12, black box underneath is p/n 990 6E04

black box underneath ??? Do you mean under the pressed-metal lid on the side of the distributor case.

When you say GM electronic distributor, do you mean the Bosch HEI unit from a Blue motor.

If it is, use the Holden factory coil &
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

hi doktor

the black box is a small plastic thingey with 2 male terminals on one end and 2 on the other end with a green and white wire going inside the distributor

it has a large white rotor, vacuum advance canister and centrifugal weights and sprin

The distributor you have is sounds like an aftermarket unit which combines a GM (U.S.) Delco Remy top section with a Holden V8 bottom section. It should have a coil-in-cap set-up.

Can you post a picture.
