this came out of a 1978 hz ute i wrecked and i was wondering how old it is. i don't think it was the engine originally fitted

Hi thanks for the offer, i would like to date your 308 but i need to know does she put out? And does the carpet match the drapes? Or no carpet? How old is she? Colour? Also some photos would help

I have QD198791 as Aug 72 and QT207460 as Sept 72 should put you in the ball park can you get back to me with a date code, should be a month or 2 earlier as I go by the date on the ADR plate with my records

the hz ute has gone, it was a donor car for my hq

so, i don't have the ADR plate or

oopps, just found the receipt i gave the buyer

chassis no. BHZ 07963B

but like i said, i don't think it's the original engine

I was after the one on the motor, pass side next to the water pump
Aug 72 is HQ, HZ would start around Qx890xxx or so

Date code is on the flat surface between the valley and the water pump, towards the passengers side. On that engine will look like G152 or something like that.

Up till some time in 1972 Holden blocks used the US date code so G152 is 15/7/72. The example you give of 30/11/73 will be 30L3 as by that time the Australian form of the date was used. I'm not sure if the August or September 1972 blocks will be US or AUS

i'm not sure what i'm supposed to be looking at but...

there is a casting mark on the block ( above the waterpump ) which reads " H2 2 " with what looks like a clock with a pointer pointing at 3 o'clock
