I was wondering if anyone could tell me if HG 308s used a Saginaw or a M21? Also, were 4spds optional on HG 308 Kingswoods and Premiers and if so, would anyone have a rough idea of how many were produced?

Cheers

In HK-HG M21 was the option code for a 4speed Saginaw. You could also get a wider ratio M22 Saginaw for at least some of HK-HG. The Saginaw box ended with the last of the HG's. In Australia this was late 1971 in any 4 speed HG ute or van (HG commercials w

I remember the local Vet bought one brand new, it was a Red HG Kingswood 308 4 speed fitted with a saginaw gearbox, and they were available in Premiers. I have no idea how many were made, my guess is they would be a very RARE car.

Thanks guys. I have a few more questions:

1) Could a HG Kingswood/Premier be optioned with a GTS parts such as the dash, steering wheel, guards, bonnet, wheels trims, etc?
2) Could a HG Kingswood/Premier be optioned with power windows or steering?

Ok cool thanks. So there is no way to check if its an original 253 or a 308? Only that its a V8? Well apart from obviously the engine (308H).

If it's a 308 manual it should have a 10-bolt and hump. A 253 will only have a banjo and hence no hump. In HG you can also pick the V8 4speed from V8 auto in all variants except GTS350 by the speedo cable hole.

If the ute was a 308 manual it will have a hump for the 3.36 10-bolt. Saginaw and V8 powerglide (GTS350A only in HG had a powerglide) use a speedo cable hole over towards the centre of the firewall, basically below the wiper motor. Trimatic is over the ot

To be honest I'm not sure, but i've never seen one. I doubt many would ever have existed especially outside GTS. Warren will know better.

Hmmm, is the hump visible from the top of the tub or only from underneath? So does every 308 4 speed HG ute have a 10 bolt?

Cheers
