What would be the general time frame for a HJ engine to match the general build date for a vehicle.
ie If the vehicle was built mid January would the block cast be very early January or in December?
How far apart could the build date of the car vary from the casting date of the block?
Thanks

Normally the same month, but sometimes a month earlier. Of course Chev powered examples are different.

Thanks Byron, do you know where the blocks were cast? In Melbourne?
I would assume if that were the case, vehicles assembled in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide may have had a longer time frame from casting to installation in the vehicle.

Dr Terry and Warren are the history buffs and will tell you for sure, but AFAIK Holden engines were assembled at Fishermans Bend, Melbourne. I don't think there was much delay between casting date and despatch to plant. Sometimes engines do get delayed an

I think its been said, that when the red motors were made, they were not stock piled. but made directly when needed for the car ordered, as it was to come down the assembly line? why have i seen so many motors that the cyl head was cast before the block.
