All
I recieved a sample of the reproduced Owner's Manual. Very good. Anyone vying to buy an original will have to be careful they are not buying the repro, it's that good. My only feedback to Rare's is that it would be nice if we can find an original July '68 manual and copy the inside cover with the date, so that Rare's could repro a July '68 as well as a December '68.

To answer your questions
Q 1 Les is it true Rares are going to reproduce Owners handbooks? A1 We intend to print only the manuals and service books that we have a demand for .
Q2 If so will you be putting on the cover that they are copies of the original documents? A2 We do not intend to put copy on the reprints
Q3If not why not A3 We do not put copy on any thing else we make, would you buy it with copy written on the cover?
Q4how have you gained Holdens permission to reprint their copyrighted material A4 We asked them
I hope this answers your question Les

Les, Let me put it simply..... most cars that are missing their owners books will in most cases have had multiple owners. So the original owners details would not be known..... therefore one can only conclude that any books that are sold with balnk owners pages can be used to falsify a vehicles history.... you only have look at the discussion on the white HK 307 and the white HT 307 with fake books to know this is going to cause problems in the marketplace... Ask Frank the poor bloke who unwittingly paid overs for a car because of its documentation whether he thinks is a good idea for you not to put "Copied with the permission of General Motors Holden" somewhere on the document...... Ok maybe dont do that.... how about because rare spares believe in the sanctity of the original document you leave off the print date or leave off the GMH part number as alternatives to indicate and differentiate an original book to a copy.... If they have to be exactly the same you should ask yourselves why, as the genuine people who just want to replace their lost books legitimately and above board would haveno problems.... Any chance of leaving th epart number off or the print date off Les...

We will have a look at any booklet we print that can be altered to give the wrong impression, by changing the owners details. We will possibly look at the issue date, where the booklet cannot be altered we will print as per original.

Hi Les, one minor change, either an addition of a word or a deletion of a number anywhere in the owners manual / service log will be more than enough... as long as it is a common thread across the owners manual / service log book you intend to reproduce....
It is only the service log book that is the problem.... parts manual etc i have no problem with....
many thanks

We are not rushing out to make any manuals at the moment instead we are doing research on what is desirable.

Makes you wonder about reproducing or coping any parts. If anyone were proud of THEIR merchandise. WHY not Print or stamp; "PROUDLY REPRODUCED BY" or "AN AUTHENTIC REPRODUCTION BY" or a similiar IDENTIFICATION MARK. Just like a hallmark on gold or silver. It would be hard to accuse anyone of any unethical, immoral that alone illegal activity then. Afterall, business is business and we are talking big business with classic, vintage veteran cars. If the product is good enough and yours is the best everyone will want it and YOUR MARK will be in demand. The ONLY drawback to all of this is YOUR MARK will be getting copied next.
