Ok, so ive brought a 1977 Hz SL Wagon, great car, good nick but tired 202! It's got the single throat carby, extractors, and the rest is standard, including a leaky powersteering unit!! haha It's got the 4sp manual, on the floor. So my question is... apart from the motor itself, what is needed to transplant a 253 or 308? I was thinking 253 coz it'll be more grunty than the 202 but it wont be such that i'm fighting the car to stay on the straight and narrow, aspecially in the wet. and it'd be better on fuel than the 308? wont it? So i think i'd need the following:
engine mounts radiator an assortment of hoses to match the V8 Extractors/exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipes.
IS that it?? or are there a lot of little things that are required? Also i've swaped engines before on a sigma and a BMW 520 and i used to work in a Wrecking Yard, so the Mechcanical repairs and stuff is fine for me but for this 202>253 transplant am i going to find it a lot different to a motor swap?? will it be a straight forward weekend job or will it take a lot of effort and a bit of time?? Am i going to fine i need to modify stuff??

The input shaft on the gearbox needs to changed, if you have an M20, most likely for a 6, this was the same box used for factory 253s, the vented front discs and drums you have will be same as factory 253, you need to changed the front springs to V8, the |

The loom is just unplug one and plug in the other at the firewall. You should be able to use the existing oil and temp senders from the 202.

It is actually an easy job IF you pull it all out and get a gearbox shop to rebuild the box as a V8 box. If you get a V8 diff and tailshaft ready it is all pretty much plug and play if you have all the right parts. Or you could put it back together with t |

hey Byron why does he need to change speedo cable, both M20 boxes, if he changes diff ratio then need to change speedo drive, also the throtle lingage is diff the wiring loom only needs the temp and oil wires lengthened I have just done 6cyl to V8 co

Sorry my fup - I meant accelerator cable.
I disagree on the box. You'd have to put a kit through any secondhand aussie 4spd you buy nowadays so it makes no difference. Unless you were buying an exchange or already built box.

Try to buy a complete running engine out of a HX or HZ (all 253 are trimatic pattern). By complete I mean everything from radiator to bellhousing, aircleaner, fan, harness etc. It may be cheaper to buy a complete rusty car and transfer it all across. all 253 are trimatic pattern....??
I think Holden made a few turbo pattern 253's .......and maybe just not for Bedford....?

Yes they made them in TH pattern for Bedfords but you won't find one of those. I've been researching Holden V8 prefixes for 20 years and looked at thousands of the damn things and never seen a BS prefix engine. Plus they are blue engines, not red. As far |
