Does anyone know how much travel say a HQ tailshaft
had in a HQ Holden sedan using a 253 with a M21 box.

Do you mean how far the yolk should enter the box?
The wear mark fom the seal should give you a clue.

No sorry I mean how far will the tail shaft travel up and down with the suspension in a sedan.
I need to work out the tail shaft loop size for our rod and its using the same setup as a HQ Holden.

Jack the body up so the axle drops to its full travel then fit your loop with about 15mm clearance.

No dont have the body on the chassis yet just wondering if anyone knows the specifications for tail shaft travel.

It will be governed by shocker travel anyway which Im guessing is not standard?
Also, the distance between the g/box and the diff will have an influence if not standard.

Alrighty then Im getting the front and rear leaf spring mounts and am going to mock up the rear end so to measure the travel, I have a couple of old tail shafts so will cut and re-weld the shaft to the length required and then get the correct measurements

i thought it wouldnt move too far as the loop is only usually about a foot back from the gear box anyway and the gear box is a fixed point. if you put it too far back and you still run the risk of the front of the tail shaft hitting the ground if it falls
