i have a hq with a 186 and electic ignition that i replaced a few years ago, now it just stopped and wouldnt start. i took the electronic distributer out and the cog had been broken. i replaced it with a new one and it was going ok till the muffler blew apart after it back fired. i have since replaced the muffler and put the distributer back in but it won't stay running and it runs rough while it is going till it stops. i have no clue how to fix it and do'nt know what else to do. need help!

If its had a big backfire, it may now have vacuum leaks which could cause your symtoms.

also check for earths this means if you have any dirt on the wires you should clean it off so the power can get in

If it was working with a 2nd electronic dizzy, why did u put the HQ one back in after the muffler blew ?
The way this reads I would put the electronic dizzy back in. That worked so u said. Otherwise, put the HQ point dizzy back in, hook up the dizzy ad

If you had a backfire BIG enough to blow your muffler apart your timing was wrong and now carby is now also suspect .That much pressure back there, imagine the inside of your carby now!ps return it to its last know good configuration!..(lol)..and before yo |

what about the low volage wire. the dizzy may not be getting the full 12 volts it needs. or could it be the module that sits at the base of the dizzy breaking down.
