Hi Fellas,
My son is building a bush basher. It will be powered by a motor bike engine, therefore will be chain driven. He wants to use parts from a Calibra to build the drive chain.
He wants to join together the shafts that come from the diff to make a single rear axle, and weld on a sprocket. The CV joints will allow movement for the suspension, and he can use the disc brakes.
Can the shafts be welded? Who does this type of work? What sort of cost? Could I do it myself, or would the temper be destroyed?
All advice is appreciated.
David

How is the centre of the "axle" going to be supported? In an independant suspension setup the diff centre (or in this case the centre section containing the sprocket) is bolted solid to the body of the vehicle. Instead of welding the 2 together he would b

How wide is it going to be? Im guessing you would want to cut the axles to narrow the width a bit.

Thanks for comments fellas. Some good advice in there! These bits ring true to me:
I am sure you could ring someone who repairs drive shafts?? might be advantages to make your sprocket with a sleeve in the centre, then connect drive shafts into this??
