hey fellas, what is the diff between diesal oil, and petrol oil.? why are they different, and would a good quaulity diesal oil be good for a petrol engine?? or not, and why? cheers bcb

hi bcb
i started using a dual rated oil for my harley, now thats ALL i use for any oil change
eg SG/CD or whatever the latest specs are
diesel lube rocks, dual purpose is the ultimate

short answer is no. diesel oils have higher viscosity to run at higher temps and have more detergents. they are good for flushing but will eventually cause loss of compression and overcleaning of seals and make them leak

the diesel oils are primarily used because most contain zddp, which is absolutely critical for highly loaded, hard wearing areas in an engine, such as flat tappet camshafts.

add a bottle of nulon or wynns supreme or alittle of both at your next oil change i bet you notice the the difference cheers
