Hi all I have decided its time for a power upgrade for the ute as everything else has now been done and the standard 308 just isnt cutting it anymore.
The options which I have narrowed it down to are.
1.Staying with the 5.0 but goin fuel injected say a late vt engine and running a large single turbo and chasing about 400 rwhp.

2.Second option is goin with a small block chev and running the usual mods to get the desired hp.

Any feed back on this would be very helpful.
The ute will only be a weekend car from now on and maybe the ocasional run down the strip so fuel economy is of no concern anymore.

I sort of agree, but a 380-400 cube Holden or Chev small block may be a lot easier depending upon what is there now.

chev off road are making a new crank to make a big cube holden, cant remember the size 393 cube i believe

Its still running the m21 and salisbury combo.But I,m thinking of putting a borg warner rear end in and maybe a supra 5spd.Not real sure on the box just yet

yep,we could to the above, get the C.O.M.E. big cube kit, and after you do all that, and spend all that money, you can get a ZZ502 or even a 502HO, brand new, that makes heaps more ft/lbs without even raising a sweat and on pump gas without a drama, for t

With an M21 or Supra and 10 bolt youll have to stay 308. Youll have to run a TH400 or 4spd TH400 and 9" if you want a 500hp engine.

Yeah right whats the go with these tremec 5spd gearboxs from Mal Wood they should handle 500hp.There are numerous cars running that sort of power with a manual box.No way am I goin Auto

I dont know much about Tremecs. A Muncie M22 will handle decent power, so will a properly built Toploader. These are what Id use if going manual, although a 4L80 would be my choice.

the muncie is a good box, but getting a bit scarce now.

some of these newer 5 sp boxes have the shifter way back, like near where your seatbelts come out when they are put into holdens.


WANTED:
HZ sandman Van 6/10 or better.
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid.

Possibly. A stroked 308 might be a cheaper option for you so you can re-use radiator, exhaust, engine accessories, mounts etc.

SBC is a solid bet, but before you do, read Street Machine August and September 07. Bob Kotmels tech articles are entirely devoted to Red 308s. Different builds, specs, outputs etc. Great stuff.

Yeah mate I have those issues of Street Machine and it is very good reading makes it hard to decide what the best way to go is.After looking on the net for the last few months I found that all the after market stuff for chevs seems to be a lot cheaper as
