Have just taken 308/TH400 or350 out off a VC SLE commodore.The engine prefix is VT.How do you tell if its red blue or black.And at present the motor is a black colour,but I assume that VC commodores did not get black 308.

Post up the first three digits of the engine number after the VT leaving xs for the rest eg VT325xxx. Also there is a casting date on the nose just behind the timing cover off to the passengers side. Will be something like 18F9. Post that as well, and you |

Have made the trek to the garage and have returned with some information.Engine no. VT107XX and no.on front of engine appears to be 8L8. The 308 on the side of the block appears to be held in place by a couple of screws rather than cast in, is this normal

Its a blue motor with that engine number. Blues kicked off just under V*100000 The box, if its from a VC SL/E, will be a TH350.

Thanks for that commodorenut. Is there any difference between red and blue,apart from the dizzy. I take it that heads and bottom end all the same?

Pollution ports in the heads are different on the blues, and this alters the location of the bolts half way down the inlet manifold.
Not sure if the late reds had this type as well - I dont think so, but one of the earlier Holden gurus could tell you |

VT107xx with 8L8 casting number will be a red motor out of a VB. Mick is thinking about VT107xxx. It could be a TH pattern block. If the red heads are still on it the inlet manifold should have one centre bolt on both sides, whereas if its had the VC head |

Thanks HK for the info.It is a turbo block, I had to adapt the Aussie 4 speed to it.The car it came out of is a vc sle but the tags say that it is a 6 cylinder sle.The car also has cruise control on the steering column which I cannot see how it works.I ha

Vacuum actuator mounted at the back of the LH cylinder head. The control module sits over near the column and brake booster and is in series with the speedo cable, well really 2 x speedo cables: a short one into the speedo and a longer one down to the tri |

There is a VC service manual supplement that explains it all really well. About 8 pages worth of cruise contrl info. I can scan it & email it if you like. Just send me a PM with your preferred email address.

Thanks for the information guys.The motor has 2 off centre bolts in the inlet manifold.It has a dirty great vaccum fitting on the back of the inlet manifold so I take it thats part of the cruise control.I intend to strip the motor of pollution gear to get

Sounds like an exchange engine ie red engine rebuilt and fitted with blue top end. The cruise actuator is a big steel bracket that bolts (from memory) to the back of the LH cylider head and has a big vacuum actuator with a rod that attaches to the side of |
