Could be a 78 block that has been re stamped?

Cheers,

What is the engine number, ie how early is the number after 308H? Very first engine stamped in this series was 308H1001. L18 cannot be 1978, has to be 1/11/68. Maybe a 308 prototype. Unless its actually L189, L180 or L181

Has it got HP on the block with a small S above the HP.
It maybe just the casting is shoddy. there are other ways to tell by looking at the cam Vally the old ones have a dip. or the length of the 4 head bolt casting in the valley. ect
Is it the original stamping number.

It has to be E189 = 18/5/1969 for a 308H 2557 engine number.
I have come across a E199 = 19/5/1969 with 308H 2624.
I had a E189 but it had a QLD police number.
If you are pulling down the motor you should see a HP crank and conrods are forged differently to the other 308s. bigger forging along the rods shaft.
