Well lets say a HQ 6 cyl Trimatic for example? If it is old or rare - Cut it! http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |

Stall torque ratio of a HQ TH400 is 2.1:1 if that helps.

Jim, dunno. That came straight out of GM literature. This link tells you what STR is: http://www.700r4l60e.com/torque_ratio.html_______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? |

So what was the stall of a HQ 6 cyl Trimatic. About 1900rpm? If it is old or rare - Cut it! http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |

From what I understand, stall is a function of the torque curve of the engine, so what the stall is would depend upon which HQ 6cyl the box was installed behind, ie 130, 173LC, 173HC, 202LC or 202HC.

Thanxz John, Peter and Byron, Im sure this is a question that will help every one who wants to know.Byron ,I agree ,i think the converters are a standard fit,IE 6cyl all the same ,V8 all the same and the torque of the engine dictates its inherent stall levels. Ive got a 2200 stall for my mild 308 t400.I got it cheap from a trusted mate ($120)and I am wondering what difference it will make above the stall of a standard. He said it will liven it up a bit,Ive never ran a H/S before, any comments?...but Ive already got it and wont be changing to another stall as its a done deal. But any comments would be appreciated .Ps Im gonna run mainly gas if that makes any difference.

my 202 had a stall of about 1900, stock, when I converted to EFI it was definitely too low, take off at the lights was very slow, (although was at the normal previous take off) I would have been better off to fit a Gemini convertor which stalls around 2200-2400. The problem is that the engine does not get to its best RPM torque at take off and so bogs down.
