Hi All ,Any info or comments on putting seats(front)in a HQ Holden van as Im considering putting some in but not sure on the laws of fitting them.IE:do they have to be HQ or alike ,can they be VT? VE? Ford? and what about anchoring points from a legal point of view, any info would be greatly appreciated as I have absolutely no idea in this area...jim
P.S. kidding about the Ford ones!

Thanks: 2 times
Try a trawl through the SA Transport Dept website, might give you a clue. The RTA in NSW has all that stuff online in memos to AUVIS and e-safety (pink slip) inspectors. If not give them a call, they should have an advice line.

HI Jvanner thats wild, but what about regulations. If I can fit any seat in no problems, but Im wondering about anchorage points. You have half covered it they cant stop you if you use the same rails with no mods.

If you bolt the seats in using the same anchorage points and original type bolts you dont need a modification plate or engineers inspection as you havent modified anything as long as you havent changed the seating capacity ie remove 3 seat bench and fit two buckets. If you have to drill new holes in the floor to mount the seats you need 3X3 inch square and 2mm thick washers added and then have it inspected and a mod plate fitted. This is Qld. compliance but I assume it would be the same in all States.

Not many vans/utes left with bench seats in?Is this something that is picked up on alot?I dont see all these cars having compliance plates on,that is why Ive asked this question.I do agree with you .I know somewhere there is regulations but I cant find any and spent hours looking for them. Thanks for the fitting advice thats what i will do.

When I changed the Tonner fron bench to buckets (in QLD) I had to get a mod plate by an eng. Cost about $50 from memory?
Since I fitted WB seats into the factory anchor points (as Absinth said) there was no eng. cert. needed. (EDIT - my orig tag says 3seater - mod plate says 2seater)
Since then I have pulled the wb buckets and modded the rails on some Nissan Exa seats I got for $20... not sure if it is legal or not BUT the original anchor points are still being used and the mod plate is still there so Im hoping some fast talking will get me past any curious officers!

I have always been under the impression (for some reason?)that if you increased the seating it would need an eng mod because of seat belt anchorage.I will just put them in and see how it goes I suppose.

Well that makes good sense (unlike some of the road/vehicle rules!!). When I got the mod plate they did say that Id need it engineered if the original anchor points were NOT used. The inspection side of it only took 1min - he gave the seats a good shake and then looked under the ute to see where the bolts were coming through (while still on the side of the road) and then we went inside for me to pay...

The only reason I even drove it into the workshop was to have the plate fitted!

Is it possible to fit WB Statesman seats onto HJ seat rails?
If so is it a straight bolt up fit, or is there modifications needed to be done as well as an engineers report?

straight on ,no need for a report ,i was told by a cop at a car show(for answering questions)you can go forward in seat years but not back,as long as you use the factory anchores.as in 1970 car fit '71 up 72,84,99 etc
