Hey guys, my old man bought a VK Commodore a while back with a rebuilt engine and its been off the road for about 6 years.

My old man has given me a list of questions to ask you guys but before I do i will list the specs of the car as best i can from memory, just to give you a better idea.

The engine specs are:

Black 308ci bored 60thou oversize, 10:1 compression, 355 crank (not sure of brand), ported and polished yella terra heads (apparently can take any size cam), fully adjustable roller rockers, stage four cam dynamics camshaft by Crane, speed pro pistons and rings, rebuilt quadrajet carby, HDT twin point dizzy, HDT CAI.

The transmission is an M21 aussie four speed with a one tonner clutch, which runs into a 3.08 salsbury diff.

The questions are as follows:

1. What would have to be done to put a 383 crank in the bottom end, would that be pushing the limit?

2. Something regarding a Harrop intake manifold so the car can run on Unleaded fuel (is it even worth it?)

3. Would a T5 5 speed manual slot straight in or would the stud pattern have to be changed?

This car will be used as a daily driven street machine.

All and any advice would be appreciated heaps.

Cheers guys.

It wont be a 355 with a 60 thou bore, more like 360ci (hence my often voice dislike for the "355" moniker - its a 350).
AFAIK there is no such thing as a 1-tonner clutch for a V8, only 6cyl. Might be wrong though.

To turn it into a 389ci engine (which is what itll be with a 3.75" stroke crank and 60 thou over bore) youll need a complete engine rebuild including new crank, possibly rods, pistons, rings, probably more clearancing of the bores for the rod bolts and a full balance. Then a new cam to suit the engine which means new lifters and maybe a timing set. Also at least a head service. COME also do an even bigger stroker too.

Itll be running on unleaded fuel now, you cant get super anymore. It might need a bigger and better manifold with a capcity increase to close to 400ci though anyway.

VK and VL T5 bellhousings were to suit 4spd/trimatic blocks, but VN on were TH pattern bellhousings. Youll be able to buy an aftermarket bellhousing to suit either way. CRS or Dellow. However putting a T5 behind a 377/383/389 sized engine is basically going from a 4spd shear pin to a 5spd shear pin ie neither will last all that long if you give it a hard time.
