hi,have a weeping oil leak at shift linkage on powerglide,would this seal be easy to replace,or is it a job for auto shop.

This might be a job for someone whos replaced a (throttle valve control sharft oil seal) before. Unless you have a powerglide repair manual,the one ive got looks like you have to remove the vavle body to get at it properly.I may be wrong but it could be a big job.How bad is the leak ?A wipe over every weekend maybe all you need.cheers--keeo

If in doubt pull the shifter arm off the side of the transmission and see if there is an O ring there. If there is and it looks easy to replace just replace it.
If it looks more difficult than that I might win the blue and white striped apron award for this but measure the diameter of the shifter shaft, buy an appropriate sized neoprene O ring, slide it onto the shaft and bolt the linkage back on.
It should stop the leak for a couple of years at least. Hmm how do I know that 8-)

I guess we are assuming that you have checked the modulator and speedo drive for leaks.

Jim, this wont work on a Powerglide transmission. Both the shifter & kickdown levers which connect to concentric tubes thru the same hole are welded on. You have to pull the valve body the then disconnect & remove the levers etc. & then replace the seal & O-ring.
