If this is the supposed USA prototype number 3, there is something secret about it. The owner is not letting anybody see it.
This being the case, its authenticity cannot be confirmed or denied.

Hi thanks for the reply. I think it has been seen by people as it was apparently at hanging rock on display a few weks ago. I saw it a few months ago in Lansfield Victoria, well im sure it was the same car. What do you mean by something secret about it? Is there something unusual about the car? Did you get to see it at Hanging rock?

I saw it at Hanging Rock, with the bonnet up. Nothing to hide there. |

It is proclaimed by the owner it is "prototype no2" but 4 experts that I know of(with credentials)claim it is a fraud.

From what i have read on other forums the car is genuine and the owner has the registration papers. How could this car be a fraud? Something is amiss here, sounds like people may be upset this guy has it. I have been doing some reserch of my own since i saw the car a few months back and there seems to be little info on these cars, experts?? They must have a crystal ball!

I am not going to get into a bun fight like some on other sites but for your interest the body is a 1950 shell to start with and anyone that has a good knowledge of 48/215s that see the car will pick that up. Re badged cars are not a new thing.

Thanks for the info. How can you tell its a 1950 shell? They all look the same to me. So the car has been rebodied then is that correct? How would anyone know if it was done by Holden or not?

They all look the same to you as you are into fcs and probably most people would not know a fe from a fc but you would. The same goes for fx-fjs, people that are into them know them backwards. If holden did change the body it is then not an "original" prototype? Edited by user Sunday, 28 February 2010 8:19:26 AM(UTC)

Thanks mate, i dont want to get into an argument over this and it seems by the way you are comming across you are getting a little hot under the collar so to speak. I dont understand how you can voice an opinion on a car if you have not seen it, have you? What about the paper work he has? This will be my last post on this subject as its clear there are some people that are not happy about this post or the owner of the car in question. My opinion is its genuine and there are people that are just ready to s*** cann it, i think they have other motives.

fcute you started a topic asking for peoples opinion on the prototype and when an answer not to your liking appears then you want to stop the debate.
As for me I have never seen it but have followed the fun across 4 or so forums, it seems that the people who could verify the car are not allowed to see it. It would be fantastic if the car was the 2nd prototype.
Having paperwork for a car doesnt make the car genuine look at all the letters Holden send out re. HQ-Zs most contain glaring errors.

I just dont want to start arguments with people over this. I am happy to hear what people have to say but if they havent seen it and have no proof its a fake how can it be? I never said anything about GMH letters , im talking about rego papers. You cant fake registration papers or registration plates, engine numbers or id tags. I hope it is number 2 also but until there is proof it is not then we must presume it is the genuine car. If its not in original condition so be it but how many cars from that ear are? Happy to see the debate go on.

And if the guy doesnt want anyone to see it, why did he have it at hanging rock car show? Doesnt seem like he is hidding it away to me. Im sure people who can verify it were there at hanging rock.

Leroy has put made his point quite well.
Im in the same situation as he his. Ive not seen the car, but I understand others who are able to verify it, have not been allowed near it.
To call it a fake or a fraud is unfair in the extreme.
If you read between the lines on the various forums, it would appear that this car contains remnants of one of the prototypes. These parts are hand made & nearly impossible to replicate, so there must be some element of truth to the story. What about the cars history, is it a re-body ?
But, & its a big but, how much of the original prototype remains ? If the car is just a 1950 FX production body, with a few prototype parts bolted to it, does that make it the real deal ? The papers themselves are probably the real papers belonging to the original car. This adds to the mystery.
On many forums, this had resulted in a huge bun fight with all the usual name calling & insults flying. I dont think that we need that here.
I dont care if the car is real or not, but I do not like to see something misrepresented. I would love to see some of the original prototype panels though.
Healthy debate & discussion is what we are here for, not naming & blaming things we havent even seen.
Dr Terry

I agree with what you say in your post Dr Terry.
Two points i would like to make:
1. Would you let people you didnt know into your home or garage to go over your car? 2. One asks himself where did they get these parts and papers from if the car is not original? Theres too much to be coincidence. Any ideas??

Two good points fcute. 1. I would not let just anybody into my home to go over my car, but I would let some of the more notable names on this site or well other known Holden-philes do so. 2. As I said, there is some truth to this car. Once upon a time, long ago, this was a real prototype & was really registered as such. What we are discussing is how much remains. Is it a real prototype bodyshell will all parts still intact ? Most likely no ! How many original parts are there? Only an independent expert on the subject can tell ! That being the case, we have to wait until that is done, or the owner is happy to show all the evidence of it being a complete prototype.
