Hey I'm looking to buy either a VK Calais or a VL Calais (6cyl auto or manual, not fussed). I was wondering if someone could tell me the pro's and con's of each model, what the best year for the particular model is and if possible a comparison of the specs of each car. Also I hear the VK has a dodgey engine, what are the problems with the engine and what's it like dropping a VL engine in a VK? And how much would it cost?

Many thanks in advance.

I reckon the VK has a great engine - an injected 202 - just a bit gutless. The VL had to suffer the ignomy of being the only Holden not to be fitted with a GM engine, plus VL's have their own problems like cracking heads and fragile gearboxes, not to ment

Im fairly sure the vk's are lighter (ie better economy and better performance from the same power)

Some food for thought

The VK Calais at the electronic "star wars" dash
which often malfunctions, and quite expensive to fix.

I agree with Byron the Injected 202 is a great engine,
very reliable, and also quite smooth. In terms of power
a VL 6 h

Good advice. I have seen an EFI plated VK though with M20 on the body plate. I'd say it was a special order, as the 4-speed was not officially available on the VK EFI. These also have basically a V8 trimatic, with the 6cyl pump and bellhousing fitted.

Ok well one more question, roughly how much would it cost to put a VL motor into a VK? Given I already have the VL's motor.
