Here is a question for the Mexicans amongst us. I have found a nice car down that way and almost took an early morning drive today to go and look at it.
I decided that it would be a good idea to do a Revs check on it so I went to the VicRoads web site for a look see.
The check came up stating that the car was a repairable writeoff.
Asked the seller how badly damaged it was & he says that he has no idea as he bought the car from a dealer two years ago.
Now my question is is this possible or am I being spun a porkie? I would have thought that it would not come up as a writeoff once a VIV check has been done and it would not be re-registerable without said VIV.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

any vehicle that was insured and has gone thru an auction wether its been considerable damage or fresh water flood damage or uneconomical to repair is a repairable write off and is on the wovr...{written off vehicle register}..therefore when you do a revs it comes up and tells you that you should spend more money getting another check done thru auvis and they can tell you more i believe....if you dont like the idea of buying a vehicle that is on wovr keep looking and if you dont mind offer them lots lower than they are asking as its scarred for life....btw..if he bought it from a dealer he should have been told as its part of the motor dealers act that they must declare this...in nsw anyway.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

to add to what i said above jim...if its a statutory write off it can never be reregistered in australia and if its a repairable write of it just needs an inspection but it never leaves the wovr. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

I buy a economically written off vehicle every 2 or 3 years, usually about 4 years old, with damages usually to the bolt on panels, so not much panel beatings required, I can bolt things on but not so good at panel work. In WA they are quite happy to put them over the pits, there are no short cuts I have found, the vehicle must be roadworthy. Don't know what would happen if a Victorian writeoff turned up. As far as I can see, the NSW regulations were introduced to protect the dealers from competition, they prevent the ordinary guy from getting into a more modern and safer car.
