Can someone help me out with a casting number for 1974 HQ 350, right exhaust manifold. I need a parts manual!
I think the two numbers I have are correct?

Heat-riser is Part No 3887023
LH manifold is Part No 3932469
RH manifold is Part No ???????

Thanks

I didnt get a reply so I'll try again.
I've got HQ parts manual M37441 issued December 73

It gives me the following part numbers:
* Heat-riser valve Part No 3887023
* LH exhaust manifold Part No 3989055
* RH exhaust manifold Part No 3973432

Are these the correct part numbers for a 74 HQ 350 (XW8) sedan?

Also I cant find any part numbers for the spark-plug heat shrouds or the airfilter pre-heat pipe. Do these parts appear in a later version of the HQ parts manual?

Thanks

I wrecked a late '73 HQ 350 Statesman with the 6263751 intake and it had exhaust manifold castings LH- 3932469 and RH- 3958562. If you have this intake they should be the right castings to look for, they should also have cast into them a 'K' for McKinnon and a shift clock.

Howdy Mark, thanks for the numbers.
So part numbers are different than cast numbers? . . I didnt know that.

Which manual did you get all that from?
Mine is HQ parts manual M37441 issued December 73 and gives me completely different manifold part numbers. Its getting confusing.

YOURS
LH- 3989055
RH- 336708

MY MANUAL
LH- 3989055
RH- 3973432

BYJINGOS LATE-73 STATESMAN
LH- 3932469
RH- 3958562 (similar to 3959562)

SOME GUY ON EBAY
LH- 3932469
RH- ???????

Any more 'correct' numbers out there for a mid-74 HQ GTS 350 sedan (XW8) ?
Thanks guys

Hi Wayne , HQ parts book M37928 may 1977 supersedes M37865 , but does not have great detail for differences in 350s , best book is 1971-75 Chevrolet master parts catalogue M37543 oct 74 ,this has full part numbers for both 350s . Mark .

Does anyone here know if late 73 to 74 RH manifolds were supplied with the American A.I.R emissions holes tapped into them?
Four holes drilled and tapped into the exhaust gas path as it leaves the head. Usually have square or hex plugs in them to block them off.

RH head numbers 346222 and 3959562 and 3946826 have these holes so if 74 HQ's didnt have these holes I can rule them out.

336708 these are a bit mysterious and werent factory installed on any US cars that I can find.

3973432 roumour has it these were only installed on early HQ until mid 1973

SO . . if 74 HQ's did have these threaded yet plugged holes then I'm guessing 3959562 is the correct RH manifold for me. If not then I'll just go with a 3973432 and not lose any sleep.

I have owned a 10/1973 and 4/1974 HQ 350 which both had the rams horn style manifold on that side of the motor pictured. Are you just using that LH manifold pic as an example and talking about the RH? Both manifolds of both cars definitely didn't have the emissions holes tapped into them.

Hi Rhys, yeah I was just using the photo as a confusing example.
Its the RH manifold that I was wondering about. I didnt think the holes would have been on any Aussie cars but just checking.

I guess I dont need to be too fussy about a casting number, it will all be hidden under the heat-stove tinware anyway. Just curious about what the casting number was.

All those bits on my engine are correct for a 74 car, except for my exhaust components.
I remember a few months ago you had RH manifold for sale . . do you remember what the casting number was? Can you tell me the casting number of the LH one you have there?

I'll have to buy a set of heat shield off you eventually, I'm just making up a list now but I had you in mind.

RigPig, LH item is 3932473 and RH item is 3958562. These numbers must be on the manifolds themselves and not in a parts book or on a tag tied to the manifold. These are the casting numbers of the items. You need to buy the little black book Ben Stewart was selling at the Warwick Nationals. It is an awesome book of numbers/codes for Monaros. The above information can be found on p12 of the little book. You can even check engine sequence numbers in it.

Just to amend that D.A , The Casting number on the LH side exhaust Manifolds on the late HQ 350s is 3932469 .

Its the early ones that run the 3932473 .

We have Rig pig all sorted now with a NOS Mckinnon Type one .

Cheers James

Thanks for the LH 3932469 manifold and shields James.

The RH 3958562 is too hard to find and the number is under the heat stove anyway so no one will see it.
I'll get a RH 3973432 Camaro manifold from the US, they're everywhere over there.

Thanks guys

Hi there, It appears that the 3932469 manifold might be used only on the 1974 engines, that is the ones that have the 8_ suffix code following the engine number. None of these engines were used in the 81837 model and whether they were only fitted to the 1974 Statesmans is open to discussion. I have been looking at a few original XW8 cars recently and all of them have had an H suffix code engine with the 3932473 manifold on them. For a Brisbane built XW8 to have a correct set of manifolds then it appears to be a case of 3932473 and 3958562 as the items to get. A check of the block casting date will confirm if the engine is a 1974 or earlier item as a Brisbane car with an 8_ suffix code has yet to be uncovered.

I'm pretty sure it was only Statesmans that got those later engines. I remember discussing this with Ben a few years ago after finding one. Not sure if new info has come to light since then.

The last didgit (or two) in the suffix code was stamped in Australia. I think it changes depending on what the application was. Thats how the suffix code thing works in the US anyway.
Statesman and GTS might not be the same suffix.

Howdy D.A
Oh well they're now ceramic coated and installed.

I'll have a look at my Engine ID Code and Engine Suffix Code when I get home in a couple of weeks.
I'm sure it has a 'H' or I would have thought it strange.

My engine number has been restamped so I wouldnt trust it too much.

The previous owner was told that it was a late 71 or 72 engine I cant remember what he said but I care so little about the engines casting date that I havent even bothered to look at it.

Ben Stewart had a look at the car a few years before I bought it, he'll probably remember the car . . and the owner.
