from memory the EJ and down look different to EH -HD - HR -HK. i don't have any pics sorry i think extension housings were different?? Tuning for Holley carbs in Perth? PM me. Edited by user Saturday, 24 July 2010 12:38:56 PM(UTC)

It depends how 'early' you mean.
FX-EK boxes have the bellhousing & centre section cast as one piece (cast iron). The very early ones have ribbed bellhousings. Early ones also had a steel fabricated extension housing. This change to an alloy casting.
EJ-HK boxes have a removable alloy bellhousing. Linkages on these boxes are on the sideplate.
EJ to early EH 149 boxes have only 4 bolts attaching the box to the bellhousing & have a different clutch slave cylinder. The later (EH 179 onwards) box had 5 bolts to the bellhousing.
There are many other minor differences but these are the 4 basic types.
