Hi all, I was told to join this site cause I need some info. here goes, I was told that lh- lx torana stubs and brakes will bolt on to my hr ute. any help appreciated thanks

sure mate, top site, just dont have a laugh with others or say anything thats TRUE, especially about the rarity or value of a dirty old holden, cos if you do, your post will be deleted and you will be given no reason apart from the fact you you are off topic.

now, back on topic, i really dont know if LH with fit.

dont forget to change your rear shoes and wheel cylinders to suit front discs

Also don't forget to change to a disc brake mastercyl as the breaking pressures and residual pressure vlaves do change.

hello again, so I have to change the brake master cylinder as well? do i need a booster to? or i might just get my drums all fixed up .

You have to change the rear wheel cylinders because disc brakes take more pressure to work effectively than drums. Holden reduced the size of the rear wheel cylinder bores to help prevent rear wheel lockups. From memeory the smaller bore wheel cylinders were visibly different on the outside so you have to use the matching pair of shoes for the wheel cylinder.

You can get away without a booster but your brakes will be quite heavy.

You don't have to replace your master cylinder (that's the easy way out) you just have to remove the residual line pressure valve from your existing cylinder.

Similar set-up yes, but the HK was larger front & rear. The HD/HR have 254mm front disc rotors & 9-inch rear drums. The HK/T/G got 270mm rotors & 10-inch drums.

ok so if i put a hk diff in the ute and use all the brakes off the hk it will work?

Just a quick note the Torana stubs will bolt on but they have a different KPI compared to HR stubs.
because of this it will cause you a few wheel alignment dramas.
As in not enough adjustment room available between the upper control arm and the front subframe to overcome the KPI difference.
HR ones are unique to HD/HR, you can fit LH etc rotors and calipers to the HR stubs.
But at least with the PBR calipers shown here

you end up with a clearance problem on full lock and under certain suspension conditions. (they hit on the lower control arm and lock the wheel up.)

Hi again, reading all these posts make it nearly to much work and money to bother with doing.
A mate has a very rusty hk roller i can get for $300 if i take all the brakes etc off it, will they all bolt up and work (assuming they all work) it also has a booster , will that bolt up to the HR firewall?

dont bother, go buy a set of hr stub axles and calipers stick with what you know works all the new parts you will need are avalible from repco ie; wheel bearings caliper rebuild kits and brake pads. i had a ute that i put discs on it did run it with out a booster for a while and the pedal is quite hard i would recamend useing a booster (vh40)these boosters are remote mounted so they dont mount to the firwall

you want buy new stub axles or calipers youll have to get them second hand (ebay is your best bet)

Gauging from some of the questions & answers posted on this particular thread, if you're considering doing the disc brake upgrade, it might be time to speak directly to a brake mechanic to do the work for you.
If you get it wrong, the "costs" can be very high.
