One European spelling, one US spelling. South Africa has two languages, and made by GM South Africa which is a US company. I think it deliberate.

I did point this out to someone, must have been between questions without notice.

Sorry about that rule, but was very busy. Would loved to have been able to just sit and talk to everyone, or like what I did at Wang in 1998.

The correct spelling is LITRE for these badges...

I wonder where the LITER one came from? I saw a Chev SS (said to be original 350, but IMO it was original 308) a few months ago that had one of these kind of badges that said "350" instead of 5 LITRE.

I spoke to the owner who told me they had basically modified/manufactured the badge using an old 5 LITRE one. The factory 350 SS originally had the 350 decal, not the badge.

South Africans "Yarpies" spell Mum the yank way, ie Mom. Therefore it stands to reason that like the rest of the world, they too have been Americanised

I'm certain that LITRE is the correct spelling from the factory, this is how all of the English language versions of the Sth African sales brochures show it anyway. The Afrikaans language version does show LITER in the text but all of the badging (on the cars) is still in English. I don't know of any badging on SA Holdens or SA Chev/Holdens that is in Afrikaans.

My guess is that an aftermarket supplier has remade some badges for the resto market & has mis-spelt it.

Dr T has the knowledge, he say's they were "Litre" only.
My South African contact say's the "Liter" badge has the part number "GEBA No 1362" on the back of it and it is "a poor job". GEBA seems to have disappeared as far as South Africa goes. There is a German company called GEBA who make water pumps etc for BMW, Merc & Audi etc, but they started in 1986.

Still none the wiser as to the origins of the "Litre" badge, Dr T might know if any SA content went into the Chev SS or whether the whole box and dice was made here.

I sent a SethOfrican colleague of mine an email asking how they spell litre as I could not find him to ask him personally. a couple of days later I asked one of his staff where he is, the reason I have not received an answer yet.... He's in Zansibar <SP?> So I'll have to wait until he gets near an internet for the answer.

Everyone who should know, ie, South African owners of these cars and Dr T have said the cars came out with "Litre" badges, same on both front guards.

The "Liter" badge appears to be a repro which uses Afrikaans spelling.

Would be good though to know what the part number on the "Litre" badge is.
