In regards to Chookies underneath post, whether the car is original 307 or not, for years I was under the impression that the middle digit in the model number (a 7 in chookies case) indicated 6 cyl engine?
A quick look thru my tag collection and on my 81469HG confirms? If i'm mistaken then i've learned something
Or were monaro's different?

80737 not the v8 or 6cyl identification,IE:they could be either. quote from another site:: It could be, in the HK monaro 80737 there was no diffrence in coding to differ between 307 and 6cly but some diffrences, where the speedo cable comes thru the fire wall 307 near the body number on fire wall and 6cyl near the brake booster/master cylinder. Not sure on how you can trace motor back to see if it is the factory motor some one else might know on here, check out the monaro site www.monaro.com.au follow links for all the information on monaro's Jim in Adelaide.. |

As above, HK has no separate model for V8. HT-HG have different models for 6cyl and V8 in each luxury level (eg in ute 6cyl Belmont is 180, V8 is 280 - 6cyl GTS is 737, V8 is 837). But HK just has 180 for Belmont ute, 380 for Kingswood ute, 337 for Monaro, 737 for GTS etc. This info will also appear on the VIN plate, except the only anomoly in HK that I know of is an Acacia Ridge GTS 327 which displays a model code of 837 yet the VIN shows 1837.
