Under dash is ugly and has no advantage over integrated other than being quicker to fit. The factory system is integrated in the dash and runs air out all of the vents and has vacuum controls instead of cables. It also has the much larger heater box on the firewall.
As for getting a new system I am unsure if you could still get one new. Unless you go for one of those hotrod style systems that are universal.
The factory system works good enough. The dealer fitted ones were under dash style.

We use to fit at the dealership AMC integrated Air Condt to the Hj,x,&z it used the same components as the non air con cars with a few cuts and mods. the same external fan housing with a deeper fan and spacer to give more air flow. You might be luck and source some parts.

Best bet go to the wreckers and source an integrated one, but get a modern compressor and use early Commodore brackets, condensers can still be bought new through Cooldrive or similar suppliers. Get Dr. Terry to fix the vacuum switches before you fit them.

My HJ statesman has an under dash unit that was dealer fitted at Smiths of Pt Adelaide ,this unit however goes from the dash to the floor (coloum auto)with several vents its a mark 4 I think and has the compressor mounted at the top side of the engine, in 1975 it cost the owner $635.00 to be supplied/fitted at the Holden dealer.

best is to buy a car and strip it out to get all the bits and relays and control cables/hoses etc.
