To the Torana expert
I purchased a L32 (253) LX Torana and was given a reconditioned UC front crossmenber. I was told these were much better crossmembers than the LH LX but was not given an explanations as to why.
My question is will the UC crossmenber bolt up to an LX32 V8 and what benifits would I gain if any.
Any help would be appeciated

The UCs have RTS, this is the main advantage. The steering arms etc will need to suit the UC setup. The crossmember is a straight bolt up and the engine mounts can be stock V8 ones.

Thanks, so when you say steering are you talking about in steering rack.
I have a complete reco'd steering rack, stab axles and steering arms that bolt up to this cross member.
What I don't have is the lower wish bones otherwise its pretty much complete.
Last thing, where is the RTS located? Is that in the steering rack?
Great help

The UC front end portion of RTS is in the upper control arms and the solid mounting of the steering rack. Few other differences but not that much. Steering arms are the bits that the steering rack tie-rods bolt to. LH-LX lower arms will work on a UC. Just make sure the crossmember isn't an early UC 4cyl one. Other than that it will bolt in.

RTS is Radial Tuned Suspension. The mounting position of the upper A arm on the chassis was changed to improve the suspension geometry and handling, it was a fundamental engineering change at Holden from American to European style handling.

Late LX's will have the RTS crossmember as well. Does your LX have RTS already?

Just to add to both of the above, LX RTS is different to UC. A9X pioneered UC RTS. With UC the upper balljoint was moved backwards within the control arm (it was late HX to WB that had the mounting points of the upper arms shifter backwards). With LX RTS the upper control arm mounting points were lowered. _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? Just another thing with the UCs they only had 6s so if you have an 8 with low springs the improved geometry is negated somewhat.

This is getting very technical..!
My 9/1976 L32 LX does not have RTS, I'm trying to assertain whether I would get any benfit with the UC Crossmember given that it is complete with its Steering Rack, Steering Arms, Stub Axles and Upper Control Arms only and that I am keen in chaning my LX Cross Memberto a HQ Brake upgrade anyway.
Am I better off doing this to the UC Crossmember or my exisiting LX?
Any help would be greatful.

You are better off using the UC crossmember. Just change stub axles to HQ-mid HX (for HQ calipers). If you leave standard ride height (which you should as HQ stubs lower the car 20-25mm approx) the UC steering arms should be OK. Ideally you'd spend about $350 on Harrop made A9X steering arms, but UC work OK. Try to chase up some UC lower arms too. LX are pretty much the same, only difference is steering stops welded to the arms and the shocky hole is normally bigger in UC lower arms (can be cut out of LX arms easily too).

I have a pair of king springs to go in the front they are lower than standard but cant remember by how much other than they are sensible height..
I have already purchased a pair of the smaller PBR callipers which have HOLDEN cast into the pad holders and machined the diameter of the Discs to 10.5inches.
The only problem I have is the length of the brake lines and concerns they may get tangled around the Steering Arms or Stub Axles I know I can get late LX/UC callipers and use my pad holders but havent yet come across a good pair for a reasonable price. I thought it may be better just to get longer brake lines. This is the state of play.
I really like the Monaro wheels on the LX but I want to do a good job of it.
The other dilemma I have is getting 8inch Monaro wheels into an LX hatch without modifying the wheel arches even though Ill be gluing the wheel arch flares with polyurethane adhesive.
The job is tougher than my initial estimate but Im really enjoying the experience.
I would be grateful for any help from the experts.

If you have machined the discs then you'll have to use the UC stubs. You don't have to machine discs if using HQ-WB stubs. I used the same calipers when I did my hatchback many moons ago, and I used UC calipers like you state with HOLDEN carriers. I used to run 8" wheels in the LX hatch without flares with 265/50/14 tyres, but they have to be spot on the right offset and the lips have to be folded.
