I was of the belief that all 307, 327 & 350 SBC engines used in HK/HT/HG/HQ were painted HK Rocket Red by GMH before fitting.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Yes 10890 is the Rocket Red code you need Fortch , but it is no longer available now from Dulux /PPG . Late last year they stopped selling their Spraying Enamel range and went to a fast drying enamel and have dropped all the old formulas so i was told .
All the aftermarket companies who have tried to copy the colour failed dismally and look wrong . Maybe someone has revised them i am not sure . I still have one correct tin of Dulux 10890 left for my Panel van engine if i ever do it and may look into it further as and use it as a sample as people seem to be squealing for it now .
I sold it on and off for a few years on ebay and hardly sold any , no when i dont have it everyone wants it it seems !

Greetings, So was I until I learned that the Chevy engines were a different colour to the Holden engines prior to 1973. The 307 engines were painted Engine Red (8929 same as X2 engine red) as were the 327 and 350s in HK through HG. HQ 350s prior to 1973 were also this colour.

I took samples scraped from original engines and bell housings to Dulux to confirm this. The paint analyser made no mistake and I locked this fact away for future reference.
look out, the guru is coming through...
