Hi All , My name is Shane and I'm a newbie on the Forum so I hope you guy's don't all pick on the new kid :)

I just picked up a HT GTS 307 car that is all original and (supposedly) numbers matching.
I can decode the small tag just fine but can't find any info to decode the other larger tag. I heard that 307 HT's ar not too common due to the introduction of the 253/308 and am just trying to work out the build date of it.

Car was in a delapidated garage in central Melbourne until saturday and was there since 1976 so I have no reason to doubt it being all original...came with a bunch of rare & NOS parts that were literally buried in grass and crud (and lots of spiders)

Any help to decode it would be greatly appreciated.

Shane...

He he...I guess that would help :)

Model 80837
Body No. 85-115
Trim 1190-10X
Paint 568-11429
Top (nothing there but has a vinyl top)

Stamp in the firewall is HT052?? (just keeping the last 2 digits to myself for the time being)

Is that all you need ?

I had a feeling it was an early car.....I gather it is a 1969 but what month do you think ?

I can't see SS on the end of the number stamped in the firewall just the HT and 5 numbers starting in 0 ??

You guy's know your stuff !!

Being an 808 car rather than an 818 car it will have the 307 rather the 327. If this car was built after the introduction of the Aussie V8 it would be a 253, with the 308 being an option.

ps It wasn't until HQ that the TOP code was added for vinyl roofs and not all plants added the code. This line usually had a paint code for 2 tone cars. The vinyl roof could also have been added to conceal hail damage at a later time.

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

Car has a 307 Powerglide LSD 10 bolt setup in it with power steering.
Owner back then put a #184 4 bbl intake on it and the bigger 350 brakes. Still has nice clear stickers on it under the bootlid and in the drivers door jamb for the LSD.
Besides the intake & brakes the only other thing I can see modified is a set of chrome rocker covers.
Engine # starts with 307 but it doesn't correspond with either tag on the car or the body # stamped in the firewall....these numbers by the way are all on the old rego papers that date back to the early 1970's that were in the glovebox.

The car is a very early HT, and the second S on many Sydney cars is not legible, so do not worry about it not being there. (Only early HTs have the two SS from Sydney).

The 308 was not available as an option until mid November 1969, standard in Brougham from release, so would be a 307 not 308 on early GTS. Check for Salisbury hump, if there it is a 307, if saginaw hump then 253.

Brisbane cars have the top section filled in for Vinyl roof from HR to HZ, Melbourne cars from HR to mid HQ. Sydney cars NEVER used it for vinyl roofs.

Would have looked so much better with 10Z trim, then all over the car would be orange and black.

As Warren states, the 253 was available from HT release only as a 4spd in GTS. So 307 auto or 253 4spd. Sounds like yours is the latter ie 307 auto 10-bolt.

All seems to make sense.
What month do you think it was built and what month was the 307 dropped from the line ?
Warren , the car actually has black interior in it and you can tell that it's been there from new and it's not painted.....what does the tag say it's supposed to have ?
The plot thickens...

Shane, I think what Warren is saying, is that its a pity it didn't have a 10Z interior code as this has black/orange houndstooth inserts.
Have a look at these http://gallery.oldholden...HG+Trim/HT/10+Black/GTS/ Have a look around all the sections the HG 10Z is one of the best looking interiors around imho.

The paint can be found here http://gallery.oldholden...lours/HT/Sebring+Orange/

Leroy , thanks for the links , i see what you and Warren mean now. I have a yellow and black 1969 Z/28 Camaro with the yellow houndstooth trim in it and they do look good. I guess you can't have everything but the black interior still looks fine to me.

I did find out today that the bonnet was replaced after a front ender early in the piece and is a HG one , anyone got a nice HT GTS hood for sale ?

Greetings Chevmad, Your car is not quite as early as suggested. June 1969 is when it would have been made and the fact that it is over 5200 units into HT at the Sydney factory confirms this. The 307 engines were all over by November of that same year.
look out, the guru is coming through...
