Hi I'm trying to find out weather the door protector strips on my HQ are original or aftermarket. My car was resprayed many years ago and they look different to some NOS ones I have seen. Can you get good repro ones for starters or are there some generic type ones out there? Does anyone have a photo of original ones on their car they can send me please? Were these the same from HQ to HZ? Cheers

The aftermarket ones were generally stick on type, I have seen a couple of different type of clip on ones my hx prem has ones about 2cm wide alloy/stainless with smooth black centre strip , my hj stato has a slightly narrower type but the black centre strip has a grain type pattern in it which could be luxury car type ? but both are clip on.

Cloudy is spot on. However I don't think HQ had side strips standard, not even sure if they were optional. HJ and HX Kingswood and Premier certainly had them (same except HJ textured and HX smooth) but I don't recall ever seeing a HQ Premier with factory strips. Dr Terry would know for sure.

The HQ accessory brochure shows side strips as an option.

It'll make them harder to find being an accessory only. Hopefully someone has put HJ or HX ones on your car! Have a look at HJ and HX parts catalogues and see if either are the same part number as HQ accessory strips too.

Hi Mark,

How were these HQ clips attached to the doors, rivets?

They were a bit agricultural actually. They came as an accessory kit thru spare parts & you just drilled holes in the door skins as required. There was no attempt at waterproofing. The clips were just a generic spring wire type.

The factory HJ/X/HZ type were mounted on plastic clips which clipped over welded studs, as commonly seen since the HK series. This type is far superior.

Do not know if the moulds were factory fitted ? but the clips are plastic 2822317 ,2822275,2822276 , screw sp-2248, sealer 7417028 " to effect a water tight seal " , an internal cap was fitted to the boot part of the screws 7448475 , Terry is correct in saying these moulds were nomally poorly fitted , and rusted around the screw holes . Yes, AFAIK there were no factory-fitted side mouldings on HQs.

i have wrecked a hell of a lot of hq with the so called non factory fitted side moulds and have a lot of second hand and also nos strips..i even have a pair of quarter panel strips for an hq coupe..the export chev hq i wrecked also had these strips..clips were large plastic and were held on by screws which you had to drill the hole first.
