I don't like the standard holden type mirrors fitted to my HG Panelvan. However I do like this look, but kinda hard to judge just by a photo. http://gallery.perryr.com/main.php?g2_itemId=3196 Has anyone put this style of mirror on their HKTG, and do they bolt up OK, do they sit nice and level, do you like the look and what model mirrors did you use. they look like ford xb mirrors i had a set of these on a hj many years ago they looked good but were a pain ti install very hard to get to the nuts . not sure how they would fit and look like on a hktg

They are probably the ones that are or were available in the autoparts stores about 20-30 years ago as replacement mirrors. I had some as a kid on a HK, so they do bolt on. But from memory, one of the holes was not needed, and you had to drill another one in the door.
As per 275Monaro's post, they were based on the ford GT or similar mirror of the day, and the ducks guts for a teenager with a hot dog exhaust.
(might even base my pano restoration on the photo!!! Thanks....not)

As for a replacement mirror.. if you are going down that route not using original, I like the ford XY gs mirrors or similar models http://cgi.ebay.com.au/F...ries&hash=item1c1b0d2a00they still look period, but a little more fancy than the standard mirror, and are a universal fit for left and right. But everyone has their own taste, and that's what makes it fun. |

I will keep and eye out on ebay, for a cheap or broken XB mirror just to see how it sits on the car. I want the mirror to sit square, not hang down at all and as its not made for the car it probably won't bolt straight on. These mirrors came factory-fitted on many 70s Fords:- Escorts, Cortinas, Capris, XA/B/C Falcons etc. etc. They used tapered (wedge) spacers to cater for the shape of the different model's door profiles.
Ford's accessory arm, Motorcraft sold them in kit form with several different wedge spacers to the aftermarket, so they would fit just about anything.

I had XB mirrors on a HQ years ago, they came with the car when I got it, I smashed one on a fence post & hade to replace it, thats when I found out you had to file down the base to get a correct angle for mounting, otherwise they looked stupid.. |

I have a set on my HJ, they are mounted from inside the mirror. Mine came off an XC. The adaptors were not needed. |

my suggestion if not keep original would be to at least keep it holden. GTS mirrors off HJ -HZ & torana are a good thing & fit neat with adjustable pivot i have a bundle o s/hand original ones or they make em repro now www.bellarineclassicautos.com.au
