there was some debate on here recently regarding whether or not HQ's had bolt on body protection strips or not, that HQ in Aust Muscle Car certainly appears to have the bolt on variety
what do others think?

I have a HQ Statesman accessory brochure (different to the standard HQ one) and it shows the strips in there, the same as what you're talking about. So yes, definitely a dealer fitted accessory, not a factory thing. About half the original HQ Statesmans you see are fitted with them.

Those protector strips would the least thing suspect with that car. I had a good read in the newsagents yesterday as I refuse to buy the mag any more as it is rubbish nowadays but I am going off topic. Have you noticed that the car is a late 1972 example yet the owner claims it is a May 1973 car? The paint colour is Baroda mk11 with the old 10 black diamond cloth trim. A 1973 car has the new 30 black and in Devereaux cloth and the paint colour would be Sable. The ID numbers are also for a 1972 car from Adelaide so something quite fishy here to say the least. Anyone who knows HQs would have spotted these anomalies.
On the side strips, my understanding is that if the Premier and LS got them the DeVille would also get them. Other Monaros could be fitted with them but as a dealer job.

Yes, I would agree, there is not too much 1973 about that HQ. I noticed the aftermarket metric speedo conversion with the yellow lettering & the early chromed recliner mechanisms. About the only thing '73' about it could be the amber front blinker lenses, but as I understand even these were phased into production as early as Nov/Dec 1972. That body ID plate style ceased around Sept of that year.

AFIAK there were no factory fitted side strips on any model HQ. There were all dealer fitted, in either Nasco & aftermarket style. Dr Terry |
