Hi all, I have removed an aftermarket (cut and welded) sump from my HG 350 that had been cut to fit HG Monaro. I purchased an original sump as I wan't to replace the power steering and when I got the old sump off there was no pick up just the line had been cut probably to stop it hitting the bottom of the bodged sump. Now the new sump (original) came with a pick up, however the pick up has a support strap with a hole that lines up with one of the main bearing bolts. Does anyone know about these or be able to shed some light on it for me. Surely it can't bolt to the big end bolt? Maybe I will just take it out and cut the support strap off as I can't figure where it is bolted other than the big end cap bolt.
Please help

As you noted the support is located under/above one of the main bearing bolts.

On an HK to HG there is a special main cap bolt that has a stud on it, the strap fits over this and a small nut holds it in place.

Simon at HKTG recovery or james (cannot remmember his company's name) should be able to help with or help source for you.

You might even want to contact rares, they may have them.

When I wanted one years ago everyone told me they did not exist, but I knew the parts book would not list one bolt different if it wasnot (I did not have one or know what it was when I first put a chev into an HK)

G'day Bogart69,

I'm not sure what the factory set up is but my oil pickup support strap connects to the main bearing cap bolt. I have had no problems with the set up. My engine is a sbc, 383 cubes with a modified original sump in an HT.

I would be tempted to leave the strap in and connect it to the main bearing cap bolt (not the big end cap bolt - but you knew that).

Cheers

Mike

Thanks all, I had a chat with James from Monaro Muscle Parts and he has the special bolts as stated by Doctor Warren however after several hours blankly staring at the pick up screen there was only one way it went and that was straight onto the main bolt. If it was set lower than that the screen would not have cleared the bottom of the sump. maybe there are two types, mine is only a 2 bolt though stamped at rear flange of block 3970010 then K 1. I have bent and shaped the oil pick up tube and am now turning crank to check clearances and start sump installation. I hope I have got it right and will only know once all back together. Thanks all for your help and if you have any knowledge of the above engine numbers please enlighten me.
Cheers
